Statue of Motörhead singer Lemmy unveiled – Svelata la statua del cantante dei Motörhead Lemmy
UK/IT version – Ten years after his death, Lemmy, frontman of the legendary British heavy metal band Motörhead, will stand proudly again in his hometown in the north of England.
The 2.25 metre high bronze statue of the Motörhead frontman was unveiled in the singer’s hometown of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, during a ceremony on Friday.
The monument, which stands on a pedestal in Market Place, was designed by Andy Edwards to commemorate 10 years since the rocker’s death and 50 years since the band’s formation. The local artist told BBC Radio Stoke that the event had a “festival atmosphere”.
In addition to guest speakers, including Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell, a procession of motorbikes with part of Lemmy’s ashes, which were laid in the statue, also arrived at the ceremony.
Lemmy, real name Ian Fraser Kilmister, was born in Burslem in 1945 and later lived in nearby Newcastle-under-Lyme and Madeley.
He joined Hawkwind as bassist and vocalist in 1971, before forming Motörhead in 1975 after being fired following an arrest for drug possession at the Canadian border.
The band released 23 studio albums over the course of a 40-year career until Lemmy’s death on 28 December 2015 following a diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Oltre agli oratori ospiti, tra cui il chitarrista dei Motörhead Phil Campbell, alla cerimonia è arrivata anche una processione di motociclette con una parte delle ceneri di Lemmy, che sono state deposte nella statua.
Lemmy, vero nome Ian Fraser Kilmister, nacque a Burslem nel 1945 e in seguito visse nelle vicine Newcastle-under-Lyme e Madeley.
