Springsteen’s first commercial, aged 71: a boom in views

UK/IT Version – At the age of 71, the Boss appeared for the first time in a TV commercial, that of the Jeep.
The spot was broadcast tonight during the Super Bowl, Uploaded to YouTube even before airing, the video made a boom in views: a few hours after publication it already had 18.8 million views.

In the movie Bruce Springsteen leaves from a small church in Lebanon, Kansas, imagined as the exact center of the United States (“The Middle” is in fact the title of the spot), traveling aboard his Jeep. In the background an instrumental piece composed by Springsteen himself together with producer Rob Aniello.

The author of “Born in the USA” speaks about how “freedom, it’s not the property of just the fortunate few. It belongs to us all…it’s what connects us and we need that connection… we just have to remember the very soil we stand on is common ground.”

Evoking Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech, he declares, “We can make it to the mountaintop, through the desert, and we will cross this divide. Our light has always found its way through the darkness and there’s hope on the road up ahead.”

The clip ends with a map of the country with the words, “To the ReUnited States of America.”

A 71 anni il Boss è comparso per la prima volta in una pubblicità in tv, quella della Jeep.
Lo spot  è stato trasmesso stanotte durante il Super Bowl, caricato su YouTube ancor prima della messa in onda, il video ha fatto un boom di visualizzazioni: a poche ore dalla pubblicazione contava già 18,8 milioni di views.

Nel filmato Bruce Springsteen parte da una piccola chiesa a Lebanon, nel Kansas, immaginata come il centro esatto degli Stati Uniti (“The Middle” è infatti il titolo dello spot), viaggiando a bordo della sua Jeep. In sottofondo un brano strumentale composto da Springsteen insieme al produttore Rob Aniello.

L’autore di “Born in the USA” parla di come “la libertà, non è di proprietà solo di pochi fortunati. Appartiene a tutti noi … è ciò che ci collega e abbiamo bisogno di quella connessione … dobbiamo solo ricordare che il terreno su cui ci troviamo è un terreno comune. ”

Evocando il famoso discorso di Martin Luther King Jr., dichiara: “Possiamo arrivare in cima alla montagna, attraverso il deserto, e attraverseremo questo divario. La nostra luce ha sempre trovato la sua strada nell’oscurità e c’è speranza sulla strada da percorrere “.

La clip termina con una mappa del paese con le parole “To the ReUnited States of America”.
